Season, flights & transport
Spring and autumn are generally comfortable for city and outdoor travel. Summer is hot, humid and within the typhoon season; check weather warnings before mountain or coastal trips. Flights from India commonly involve a connection; compare transit requirements and total journey time. Taipei has MRT and buses, while Taiwan High Speed Rail links major western cities; local rail and buses serve other regions. Taipei Metro currently lists single-journey fares from NT$20 to NT$65, a one-day pass at NT$150 and a 72-hour pass at NT$380. Tourist visa for Indian passport holders
Indian passport holders do not have a blanket visa-free entitlement. Some Indian nationals may qualify for an online Travel Authorization Certificate if they meet BOCA’s conditions, including holding a qualifying current or recently expired visa/residence document from specified countries, a passport valid at least six months and a return/onward ticket. The certificate, if approved, allows multiple entries during its 90-day validity and stays of up to 30 days per entry. Other travellers must apply for the appropriate visitor visa. Special group-tour or business eVisa routes have separate eligibility; do not assume they apply to an individual leisure trip.
Hotels & indicative budget
Indicative Taipei daily budget: around NT$1,400–2,000 per person for a hostel-and-night-market backpacker day, and NT$2,500–4,500 for a mid-range day with a private hotel room, local restaurants, MRT travel and one or two paid attractions. Hostel dorms may be roughly NT$500–900 per night; simple private rooms and business hotels vary widely by location and weekend demand. Outside Taipei, prices may be lower in some towns but transport and accommodation choices can be more limited.
For Indian travellers, one 2026 guide estimates a 7-day trip at roughly ₹80,000–1.1 lakh budget and ₹1.1–1.5 lakh mid-range including flights, visa and on-ground expenses. This is a planning envelope only; airfare and entry eligibility can materially change the total. Reference: Taipei 2026 daily costs ↗ Reference: Taiwan trip cost from India ↗
Attractions & entry costs
National museums, observation decks, hot springs, gondolas and national parks have different ticket and reservation rules. Some temples, markets and scenic areas are free; special exhibitions and transport passes cost extra. For current reference, the National Palace Museum lists a regular Exhibition Hall I ticket at NT$350 and a discounted ticket at NT$150 for eligible visitors including holders of a valid ISIC student card; visitors aged 17 and under enter free. Confirm exhibition access and eligibility before visiting.
