01 · COUNTRY OVERVIEW

Singapore at a glance

Singapore offers distinct education, career and travel possibilities. The best city and pathway depend on the subject, language, budget, season and personal circumstances.

Understanding the destination

Singapore offers a compact, highly international education environment with publicly funded universities, applied institutions and private providers/partner degrees. Compare the awarding university, campus, programme accreditation and total cost carefully—especially for private and partner-delivered courses.

Singapore is suited to a compact city break: Marina Bay, Gardens by the Bay, heritage districts, museums, Sentosa, wildlife parks and hawker centres are connected by efficient public transport.

  • Subject pathways aligned to the country's academic and industry strengths.
  • International admissions routes at the institutions listed below.
  • Potential university, government or external scholarship opportunities.
  • Opportunity to gain international academic and cultural experience.

Education system & planning

International applicants may find bachelor's, master's, doctoral and selected foundation, language or pathway programmes. Duration and entry level vary by national framework and university.

  • Undergraduate: secondary-school completion or equivalent; subject prerequisites may apply.
  • Postgraduate: relevant recognised bachelor's degree; some courses require work experience or a portfolio.
  • Doctoral: research fit, supervisor availability, proposal and prior academic record.
  • Language: IELTS/TOEFL or local-language evidence where required; exemptions are institution-specific.

How to interpret this shortlist: NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD and SIT are autonomous universities. James Cook University Singapore is an overseas university campus. SIM Global Education is a private education institution delivering programmes with overseas university partners; applicants should verify the awarding university, campus, mode of delivery, programme accreditation and student-pass eligibility for the exact course before paying a deposit.

Do not assume that every listed university offers every subject in English or accepts applications through the same route. Check the official international admissions page and national recognition/accreditation register before recommending a programme.

Programmes & tuition

Tuition varies by institution, level, discipline, language, campus and student nationality. Medicine, laboratory-based courses, business schools and private institutions may have substantially different fee structures.

  • Request the current fee schedule for the exact course and intake.
  • Check application, registration, examination, insurance and laboratory charges.
  • Ask whether fees are annual, semester-based or total-programme amounts.
  • Confirm refund, deposit and deferral policies in writing.

Scholarships & funding

Government and university scholarships are competitive and may carry service bonds or other conditions. Universities also publish tuition grants and financial-aid options; some grants involve a work obligation after graduation. Read the exact terms before accepting.

  • Check nationality and programme eligibility.
  • Confirm whether a separate scholarship application is needed.
  • Review renewal grades, attendance and duration conditions.
  • Calculate the funding gap after living costs and uncovered fees.
05 · STUDENT VISA & ADMISSION

From application to arrival

Immigration decisions are made by the relevant authorities. The university and visa route must be confirmed before paying deposits or booking travel.

Student immigration overview

Foreign students accepted into an approved full-time course generally need a Student’s Pass unless they hold an eligible exemption pass. The application route depends on the institution type; follow the institution’s instructions and ICA’s current online process. Part-time, evening and weekend courses do not qualify for a Student’s Pass. An In-Principle Approval (IPA) is not itself an immigration pass, and final entry remains subject to border checks.

STEP 01

Profile review

Assess academic records, subject prerequisites, language, budget and intended intake.

STEP 02

Shortlist

Compare official programme pages, tuition, recognition and scholarship conditions.

STEP 03

Apply

Prepare certified documents, submit the application and complete interviews or tests.

STEP 04

Visa & enrolment

Follow the institution's immigration instructions and complete pre-departure checks.

Typical document checklist

  • Valid passport and application form
  • Academic certificates and transcripts
  • Language test or medium-of-instruction evidence, if accepted
  • Statement of purpose / study plan and CV where required
  • Recommendation letters, portfolio or research proposal where relevant
  • Financial evidence, medical/insurance documents and translations as required

Accommodation & living costs

Compare university residences, private student housing, shared apartments and homestays. Ask about deposits, utilities, meal plans, commute times and contract length. Living-cost estimates should be built city by city and include insurance, local transport, phone, study materials and emergency funds.

Part-time work rights are not a substitute for proof of funds. Check the exact legal limits and permission requirements for your visa category.

06 · TOURISM & TRAVEL

Explore Singapore beyond the classroom

Singapore is suited to a compact city break: Marina Bay, Gardens by the Bay, heritage districts, museums, Sentosa, wildlife parks and hawker centres are connected by efficient public transport.

Best time to visit

Singapore is hot and humid year-round with frequent showers. There is no sharply defined dry season; pack for rain and plan indoor/outdoor combinations.

Flights from India

Frequent direct flights connect Singapore with Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata and other Indian cities; flight frequency and fares vary.

Getting around

MRT and buses cover most visitor areas. Contactless payment or an appropriate transport card is convenient; taxis and ride-hailing are widely available.

Tourist visa for Indian passport holders

Indian citizens/passport holders require an entry visa for Singapore. The Singapore High Commission in New Delhi states that applications are submitted through its authorised visa agents. Visa processing fees and agent service charges are subject to the current official schedule and the agent used; confirm both directly before applying. Processing time varies by case, so apply early and do not treat a published estimate as a guarantee. A visa does not guarantee entry, and the period of stay is decided by ICA at arrival. The mission advises applicants not to buy flight tickets before the visa outcome.

Submit the SG Arrival Card within the official pre-arrival window (generally the three days before arrival, including arrival day) unless exempt. Always check the latest instructions before travel.

Hotels & accommodation

Choose accommodation by neighbourhood and transport access, not only nightly price. Compare cancellation terms, taxes, breakfast, airport transfer, family-room configuration and late check-in. In peak periods, reserve refundable options early.

Transport, tickets & entry fees

Use official attraction websites or authorised ticket sellers for current admission prices, timed-entry reservations and closure notices. Budget for local transit, intercity travel, airport transfers and guided excursions separately. Keep digital and offline copies of tickets and accommodation details.

Indicative travel budget

Indicative daily budget (per person, sharing a room): a careful budget trip can be around S$100–140 per day, while a mid-range trip may be around S$230–330 per day, excluding international flights. Hostel/capsule stays, hawker meals and MRT travel keep costs down; hotels and major paid attractions are the main cost drivers. A 4-night/5-day trip from India has been estimated at roughly ₹57,000–87,000 per person on a budget and ₹91,000–1,51,000 mid-range, including typical return flights and visa processing assumptions. Actual fares, visa service fees, hotel rates and attraction choices vary. Reference: 2026 Singapore trip-cost breakdown ↗

Accommodation guide: lower-cost rooms around Little India, Bugis, Lavender and Jalan Besar can be more economical and well connected by MRT; central and resort districts usually cost more. Compare the total room price including taxes, breakfast, deposits and cancellation terms. These are planning estimates, not a quotation for your dates.

Current entry and study-permit checks

Official-source check for planning purposes. Reconfirm the rules for the traveller’s nationality, exact purpose and intended travel date before payment or departure.

Singapore: entry visa and Student’s Pass are different permissions. Indian ordinary passport holders require an entry visa for a short visit. Apply through an authorised visa agent and follow the current High Commission/ICA instructions; an issued visa does not guarantee admission at the border, and the permitted stay is determined on arrival. Submit the SG Arrival Card within the official three-day pre-arrival window. For education, foreigners generally need a Student’s Pass to pursue an approved full-time course; part-time, evening and weekend courses do not qualify for a Student’s Pass. Do not rely on older fee or processing-time figures without checking the current official schedule.

Programme and university verification: use these official sources to filter actual courses, confirm international entry routes, and check fees for the intake:

Tuition and student-living costs: Costs vary by institution, programme, campus, intake, nationality, scholarship conditions and accommodation choice. Use the official fee schedules linked here to check the exact course and intake. Public guidance should not be treated as a fixed quotation; detailed comparisons and individual budget planning are handled through the destination brochure and counsellor discussion.
