Season, flights & transport
Late spring and early autumn are comfortable for city walks. Summer is warm and busy; winter is cold but brings festive markets and thermal baths. From India, Budapest is usually reached with one stop through a European or Middle Eastern hub; compare total travel time, baggage and transit-visa rules. Budapest has metro, tram, bus and suburban rail; intercity trains connect major towns. As a current planning reference, BKK lists a 24-hour Budapest travelcard at HUF 2,750 and a 72-hour travelcard at HUF 5,750; recheck ticket rules and validity before purchase.
Tourist visa for Indian passport holders
Indian ordinary passport holders require a Schengen short-stay visa (Type C) for tourism in Hungary, for visits of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Apply through the competent Hungarian visa channel for your place of residence and itinerary. A visa is only permission to travel to the border; entry is decided by border authorities, who may ask for accommodation, funds, insurance and return/onward travel evidence.
Hotels & indicative budget
Budapest offers hostels, apartments and hotels across central districts; smaller cities have guesthouses and university-town accommodation. For better value, compare Districts VI, VII, VIII and IX by street and metro access rather than assuming every central address is inexpensive. In Debrecen, Szeged and Pécs, check proximity to the university and regional rail/bus stations.
Indicative visitor budget (per person)
For planning, allow roughly €55–€95 per day for a budget-to-comfortable independent trip in Budapest, including a hostel or shared-room share, meals, local transport and a modest amount of sightseeing. A private budget hotel room may be around €55–€110 per night; better-located or peak-season hotels can cost more. Outside Budapest, accommodation and daily spending can be lower. These are broad planning ranges, not live quotations; flights, Schengen visa costs, travel insurance, shopping, premium thermal baths and intercity excursions are extra.
For a 5-day trip, use approximately €275–€475 per person on the ground as an initial budget, then add flights, visa-related expenses and a contingency reserve. Check whether accommodation rates include breakfast and local taxes.
Plan for lodging, meals, public transport, museums, thermal baths, intercity rail, insurance and a contingency reserve. High season, Christmas markets and major festivals increase rates.
Attractions & entry costs
Parliament tours, museums, churches, thermal baths and castle attractions have separate ticket categories and timed-entry rules. For a concrete 2026 reference, Széchenyi Thermal Bath lists weekday daily entry with locker at HUF 13,200 and weekend entry at HUF 14,800; peak-season pricing can be higher. Parliament visitor tickets for non-EU visitors are listed from €60 on the visitor ticket site. Prices, exchange rates and eligibility can change, so confirm directly before booking.
